Dr Rick Hanson explores some fundamental question, such as: What is human nature? What’s going on in the brain when we are in a good place? Why the brain has a built-in “negativity bias?” He also presents an activity about our three basic needs: safety, satisfaction, and connection, represented by the metaphors of an internal lizard, mouse, and monkey, which correlate to our reptilian, mammalian and cortical brain. For each of these needs, one can explore the two different ways to respond to them: Reactively—in the “Red Zone” and Responsively—in the “Green Zone”
